Dental emergencies and trauma

What to do in the first minutes when your child injures a tooth. The difference between saving and losing the tooth.

When a child injures a tooth, the first 30 minutes matter. At Bites Odontopediatría we handle pediatric dental emergencies in Vitacura and we want you to know how to act before reaching the clinic. The difference between a tooth that's saved and one that's lost is often what happens between the accident and the first clinical evaluation.

Frequently asked questions

My child fell and a tooth came out: what do I do?

If it's a permanent tooth, the first 30 minutes are critical. Hold the tooth by the crown (not the root), rinse with saline or milk, try to reimplant in the socket if you feel comfortable, and come to emergency immediately. If you can't, transport it in cold milk. Baby teeth are not reimplanted, but still need evaluation.

When is a tooth injury a true emergency?

When there's bleeding that won't stop, visible fracture, displaced or avulsed tooth, intense pain, or the child has trouble biting. Any facial blow with dental impact deserves evaluation, even if it initially doesn't look serious.

Have a specific case? We'd love to evaluate it together.
